The Sloane Robe

2021. Wool and Cedar.

I began the Sloane robe in the summer of 2021 while pregnant with my son. At the time, the SWAY art exhibit was on display at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau, Alaska. In the show was a small child-size robe and a tunic that I fell in love with. I went back to the exhibit multiple times, studying the size of the baby robe and the design the tunic and knew I needed to weave a baby Chilkat robe for the baby I was growing. I used the design in the center of the tunic as a starting point for my design, and would eventually morph the design at the bottom to fit the angle of a traditional Chilkat robe.

My son was born in August of 2021 and I continued to weave on it when time would allow with a newborn on me with the support of my mentor Lily Hope and the Bunnell Street Arts, who supported the completion of this robe in December 2021.
